Lee Becker visited Web Mining Lab
On June 13, Professor Lee B. Becker was invited by the department to give a talk on “Validity and Reliability of Media Freedom Measures: Elite versus Public” in the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Building. After that, Professor Becker visited the Web Mining Lab. Professor Jonathan Zhu and the PhD students introduced current projects for him. Lee B. Becker is director of the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training and Research and professor in the Department of Journalism, Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Georgia. He is one of the leading scholars on media freedom measures. In his lecture, Professor Becker traced the history of media freedom measures and the development of three major organizations on the issue. He discussed the limitations of current measurement and offered some suggestions for future research. Over 30 faculty members and students from different universities attended the lecture.
