Guest from Finland visited the Web Mining Lab
On October 27th, Jyrki Nummenmaa attended the weekly meeting of Web Mining Lab. He is a CS professor from the University of Tampere in Finland. He and the lab member Zhenzhen became friends in the Finnish summer school on social media. During the summer school, they discussed about the possibility of collaboration between scientists and social scientists. Is it always in a form that the social scientists ask questions and the scientists provide methods? They haven’t reached an agreement yet. Zhenzhen invited him to share his research on traffic data with the lab members. It is still a clash between scientists and social scientists. Social scientists believe that scientists look for users of their tools, people to help design the research, people to interpret results, and new ideas for their tools/system design. The information exchange will go on in the future.
