New paper accepted to SMP 2016

The paper Segmenting and Characterizing Adopters of E-Books and Paper Books based on Amazon Book Reviews by Guan Lu, Zhang Yafei, and Jonathan Zhu, was accepted for full oral presentation to National Conference of Social Media Processing 2016. In the paper, they proposed a behavior-to-opinion approach to analyze online products reviews, in which users are first categorized based on some unambiguous behavioral patterns and their online reviews are then classified to reveal unique and detailed characteristics of each user category. This study provides interesting findings on review patterns and would be possible to provide new insights on how to track and target online users. Guan Lu and Zhang Yafei are our lab’s new members this year. Guan is a first-year PhD student of Department of Media and Communication. She got her bachelor degree in digital media in 2015 from Beijing Normal University and master degree in media and communication in 2016 from City University of Hong Kong. Zhang is a PhD student under the joint PhD program between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and City University, which takes effect from 2015. He got his Bachelor’s degree in engineering in 2014 from Central South University, Changsha. After that, he began to pursue his PhD degree in engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
