Hai and Lingfei gave invited talks at the national science agency of Australia

Hai Liang and Lingfei Wu, both in their second year studies, were invited to give a seminar on May 30 at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO). “CSIRO is Australia’s national science Lingfeiagency and one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world”, according to Prof. Jonathan Zhu, the departmental coordinator of PhD program and also supervisor of the two students: “The students have showcased the quality of our education and cutting-edge research.”

Lingfei and Hai have been on a semester-long visit to Australian Demographic & Social Research Institute (ADSRI) of Australian National University (ANU). Earlier on May 3, they gave two other talks at ANU on “How the Web1.0 fails: The mismatch between hyperlinks and user-flow” by Lingfei and “The structure of public expression and issue rise: Participation heterogeneity, concentration, and timing in internet forums” by Hai. The talks drew audiences from social searchers and computer scientists within and outside ANU.LH

In the seminar at CSIRO on May 30, Hai talked “Four approaches to model the change of opinion climate in Web Forums” and Lingfei focused on “Understanding the user navigation on the Web”. Both talks represent part of their dissertation research.
