Dr Xiaoke Xu Gives a Talk in the PhD Workshop

Dr Xiaoke Xu, a post-doctoral research fellow of web mining lab, gives a talk in the PhD workshop. This presentation is to provide a brief introduction to Matlab and its applications in network analysis. First, He interviews the attendants for their familiarity with the tools for data processing and visualization. Second, He introduces the features of Matlab for data processing and visualization. Third, He introduces applications of Matlab in network analysis, including the frequently-used toolboxes in Matlab, the use of Matlab’s sparse matrix in complex network research (especially in the era of big data), and how to optimize the programming of Matlab to solve the low efficiency problem of script languages.
Xiaoke Xu (PhD in Communication and Information System, Dalian Maritime University) is a professor of College of Electromechnical and Information Engineering, Dalian Nationalities University. He is currently visiting Web Mining Lab of the Department as a research fellow. He previously worked at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Qingdao Technology University. His research interests include online social networks, complex network and system, and collective motions of animals. His research has been published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America and leading science journals. Currently, Xiaoke is working on network sampling research with Jonathan J.H. Zhu.
