Christian WAGNER and Yingqin ZHONG visited Web Mining Lab

On 15 September, Christian WAGNER and Yingqin ZHONG visited Web Mining Lab and shared their most recent study on predicting future uncertainties through social information mining. Their research explores the ability of crowds, in aggregate, to predict outcomes of future uncertain events, such as the winner of American Idol and FIFA World Cup. The study introduces the foundation of collective intelligence, presents a framework for social media activity as a predictor, and provides evidence to support the hypothesized framework. Christian Wagner is Professor of Information Systems at City University’s Information Systems Department. Wagner specializes in the development and study of decision support systems, creativity support, and knowledge management with wikis and weblogs. Dr. Yingqin Zhong is currently a research fellow at the Department of Information Systems in City University of Hong Kong.
